The blue mutation of the Quaker is one of the most beautiful of the Quaker mutations. The color can best be described as a powdery Wedgwood blue. Soft silvery grey replaces the grey. The flight feathers and long tail feathers are darker blue.

The blue mutation is a simple recessive. To produce blue  birds you must have blue in both parents, either visually or as a split. A split bird is one that is visually green but carries the recessive gene for blue.

Breeding Blue to Blue produces 100% Blue.

Breeding Blue to Green/Blue produces 50%Blue. 50% Green/Blue.

Breeding Green/Blue to Green/Blue produces 25% Blue, 50% Green/Blue and 25% Normal Green. *The only way of knowing if these babies are split blue is to test breed them as adults.

Breeding Green/Blue to Normal Green produces 50% Green/Blue., 50% Normal Green. ** Test breed as above.

Breeding Blue to Normal green produces 100% Green/Blue.

Many of our Blue Quakers are bred to our best normal greens to obtain strong, healthy splits. After generations of carefully controlled breeding. we are producing beautiful Blues and Green/Blues. Birds are individually cage bred to guarantee pedigree. We have been breeding these beautiful Blue birds since 1984.

Our babies are closed banded and handfed from the age of 14 days. Shortly before weaning they are DNA sexed and placed together in a community cage. This way they learn to communicate with each other and do not imprint totally on humans which makes for great breeders.

Babies are usually available starting in July or August after they have been weaned
and sexed.   Unrelated pairs can be furnished from our diverse gene pool.

Blues are priced at $500 and split blues are $175.

Our Normal Green babies are wonderful. They are very large and robust. Quakers are fantastic talkers. Handfeeding ..$75  Weaned..$150

Cinnamons are still on the very rare list with us. We are still building up our breeding stock with these beauties. . As of the 2000 breeding season we are still not selling any of our stock. Check with us in 2001!
